Inconsiderate business owners put self over community; To date, Police – have ignored calls from irked neighbors.

It doesn’t matter which came first, the apartment or a bright idea for a business, regardless of the scenario – one has got to give… With the ADESA (now Carvana) auto auction facility business locally as well as just about any car related business on the south side, if you own a car hauling business, you want to live in the area, or if you live on the south side and want a great lucrative business – car hauling is a great entrepreneurial decision. All you need really to get started is a pickup truck and a old trailer, and a few bucks to register both with the state and the federal transportation department.

In the case you open a car hauling business from your apartment building – this becomes problematic. On Weld Street on the south side of Framingham, a stones throw from the ADESA/Carvana, you live in the perfect spot. You can get to work easily, and you can tuck your trucks in your neighborhood – ready for the quick commute…. or can you? Well, you can…. but you probably shouldn’t .

This is the lawless south side, where anyone can get away with just about anything. Open drug use – yes. Shooting people – yup. License-less driving – no risks. Breaking into cars as a career path – most certainly. So it is no surprise that out of an apartment complex with 11 buildings and 297 apartment units – you should be able to run a business – without much pushback from anyone… even if laws are broken.

The issue in this case is two neighbors. 7 Weld Street Apt 29 and Apt 30, have both launched auto hauling businesses.

LSA Transport – per their USDOT registration – is operated out of Apartment 29, and owns 12 power units and employs 12 drivers. In 2021 – their fleet travelled over a million miles. They are specifically licensed as interstate haulers carrying automotive vehicles.

MUTZ Transportation – per their registration – is operated out of Apartment 30, and they are a one man operation with just one power unit and one driver. They are also licensed for interstate automotive vehicle transport.

By all accounts – they all are friends and they have all found the same solution to their business challenges – parking on the street – on the lawless south side of Framingham.

This is where the issue lies. They park on both sides of the street, park overnight, blocking driveways, parking on corners, and blocking the safe passage of larger vehicles. The apartment building does not allow parking of large trucks in their lot, so people who live here – who use such equipment for work or pleasure, are expected to make other arrangements. In the case of these two companies – they choose the street.

Lets first look at what is wrong with parking on the street – because parking on streets in Framingham is allowed.

The first issue is the inconsiderate parking on both sides of the street.

The second issue is that trucks are being parked on the corner of intersections, on top of crosswalks, stop lines, beyond stop signs, and into intersections.

Thirdly the already narrow roads, more narrowed due to the issues stated above – make the roads difficult in larger vehicles, vans, ambulances, or fire trucks.

And lastly, the parking of commercial vehicles on public roads is against the law. If anyone were to complain – the offending vehicles could be met with a fine.

A responsible business owner might find alternative solutions. They might find a vacant lot to rent in the city, or they might move to a more suitable living situation. In this case – it is obvious that the owners don’t give a fuck about anyone but themselves.

Unfortunately this is the ‘anything goes’ DTF & Southside. You can call police to tell them about a ‘parking problem’, but if they will come out and address it, leave citations, etc., is anyone’s guess. There have been instances where calls to complain from this are haven’t even been logged in the call logs.

If this type of parking behavior took place in Beth Greeley’s historical district – you better believe that Karen #1 would be on the horn, emailing every elected leader in the city – demanding immediate action, and calling the neighbors for a email to come together for an intervention to save their neighborhood.

With this post – we have notified the police that we expect immediate enforcement of the laws on the books, specifically to Weld St.
