Today we’ll take a look at some of our taxpayer owned vehicles inspected by the FFD in the last ten days. We have periodically looked at the problem vehicles, but not taken a snapshot of all vehicles inspected over a period of time. Some vehicles in this list have been inspected twice in the period we are looking at April 1-11.
Station 1 – Car 1 for example, has some issues with it’s panels and gauges… but at least it runs – it just doesn’t switch into drive. That vehicle is in better condition than some of these below.
Then there’s Engine 1, as the driver, you’ll want to keep your window rolled up… open it, and your door opens as well. That too isn’t so bad.
Engine 2 – has an expired inspection sticker. So when the police pull you over for yours- tell them that the city isn’t setting an good example for you to follow.
In a fire requiring foam, you might not want to bring Engine 3, as the foam system is busted. The fuel gauge also is. The moon roof leaks in the rain, the weather stripping on the door is all falling off, the cab ajar light is not working…. and there’s a air leak in our ladder rack, and the front air pressure warning light is on.
Engine 4 – Spare, we are unsure why it’s considered a spare, as it runs, which is better than some of the vehicles on the list. The door latch on the officers side – periodically malfunctions, and some of the lights aren’t working – but all in all – this vehicle could be the easiest to fix.
Engine 7 – has a broken sun visor.
On Ladder 3, it was determined six months ago that there is a passenger side large diameter discharge leaking and it was capped. But it needs valve replacement. No action has been taken to fix this. Two weeks ago it was determined that the check engine light comes on randomly, the low coolant light, the fuel gauges, and the seatbelt indicator, are all malfunctioning. Two of the spotlights are also busted.
Rescue 1 – you might not want to rely on in a life or death situation. Might be better named, ‘In Need of Rescue 1’. Light tower, ground lights, cab lights, compartment open lights, LED lights, bumper emergency lights, top rear lights, floodlights, and spotlights – all not working. Sometimes it starts, sometimes the wipers work, and when they work – they don’t turn off, the dashboard lights also sometimes work. Sometimes the ABS alarm goes off. Never working is the AC, the drivers window fan. The radio sometimes starts scrolling through channels on it’s own. And that’s just the beginning of the list.
Tower 1 – has some issues with the basket lights – but all in all, the issues are cosmetic like broken pull out steps, loose buttons, and crash damage.
We’ll do a re-evaluation in a few weeks to determine what hasn’t been done to rectify anything and what new issues are plaguing our equipment.
