On 5/10/2022 the Welcoming Ordinance Commission met to discuss a path forward in the writing of the Welcoming Immigrants Ordinance.
In typical fashion, when we requested the video from the meeting they told us that it didn’t exist… so we asked again more forcefully, and suggesting that we appeal the matter to the state. The city quickly did an about face on the matter and quickly turned over the file. The full video can be viewed on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1704617669886041
This video is a portion of the meeting, essentially when a member of the public wanted to get in on the meeting, and went to where he though the meeting would be. Instead he found a lone city councilor running the meeting from his desk in the Blumer Room (where the city council usually meets). Escorted out by police – this member of the public did not get to express his grievances.
Worse yet, in retrospect, per the meeting agenda (above) Public Participation was not welcomed – it wasn’t even listed as an option.
It’s as if they want to write an ordinance which is a polarizing manner, without any input from the pubic. Are you in favor of the welcoming ordinance? How about against it? Does writing it into law, make any difference, if what they are writing is already unwritten policy in the FPD and city as a whole? TELL US ON FACEBOOK: CLICK HERE

How about this?…… “We welcome law-abiding citizens of the USA”. There, I fixed it.
How about maybe they, make it something the people themselves vote on. Instead of a handful of folks who worry that if they take a stand against this, they will be pillorized for it.
