CPA Fund Request Presentation for Memorial Building

City seeks CPA funds to preserve and make more accessible, the Memorial Building. Making public spaces accessible and maintaining for years to come, shouldn’t be done if funds are handed to them. It should be done as part of public policy and maintaining facilities.

Per the presentation below, “The Mayor has made the restoration and compliant accessibility of the Memorial Building a priority”, however the Mayor has been saying this for years. Why not just do it, instead of talking about someday funding it with CPA monies… someday in the future?

“The City of Framingham is seeking $200,000 in funds from the Community Preservation
Committee for design services for increasing accessibility and compliance with ADA as well as
creating a design plan to improve the building’s access. Requested funds would cover the cost
of design for architecture, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire alarm components for
bathrooms, access and inclusion.”

It’s only $200,000. This is money that the city doesn’t bat an eyelash before spending. Peanuts. But instead they have been waiting for years to rectify issues in the memorial building. If they wanted to make this project happen. They would have, rather than waiting, applying to be granted 200k of CPA money, and hope they are funded in another six months to a year. The priorities are known Mr. Mayor. Lots of talk – little action. Spicer too knew that there were issues in the building and did nothing. Lots of do-nothing mayors when it comes to preserving and bringing to code – public spaces.
